This is actually an older building in downtown Montreal`s Gay Village that is a multi-level complex, hosting an inexpensive hotel, restaurants with not bad food (nicely priced as well) and there are about 4 or 5 bars inside - including a piano lounge on the top floor facing out back to Champlain Park. There is also a male sauna located on the second floor, next to the Bourbon Hotel rooms.
I enjoy having a pitcher of beer at The Track bar at least once during the week, on my way home from work. At $12 each, I always leave a $3 tip for the good service and conversation with the barman. The Track was one of the first bars open in the Village and though the crowd has moved on, it`s still a good place to hang after work for a drink and to catch up on TV news.
In the summers there is a large terrace on the busiest street in the City of Montreal, Ste Catherines Street. From about May 28 through to August 28, Ste. Catherines closes itself off to traffic and it becomes the largest promenade in North America. You can walk about 12 blocks from the Papineau metro station all the way to the Governor`s Hotel.
For those who gamble, there are video lotteries on two floors - one located in "the Track", and another on the second floor above the bar. There are pool tables on pretty much every floor, and all staff, including the hotel room attendants, are friendly, easy to talk to and bilingual.
Club Sandwhich is a train-style restaurant with a variety of menu items to choose from. Lunches are pretty busy but there`s always someone to serve you. Café European offers banquet services that can accommodate groups of 50 to 200 people in the reception halls. Buffets as well as affordable personalized menus are offered.
Tool is a relatively new nightclub, located downstairs, and caters to the Goth crowd, open Saturdays only.
There is free wireless internet courtesy of Isle Sans Fil (Wi-Fi Isle), which is perfect if you host an online blog show and want to stream from one of their many bars. There are also bank machines as the bars don`t accept debit or credit.
And for sports buffs, you`ll be happy to note there is a volley ball sand pit right outside!
